Gas Prices AGAIN!!!

So here is the subject again, "gas prices". Our state Senator Ted Stevens, made an appearance in our Juneau legislature building with some insight into what is causing the high prices of our gas. The reason I am so interested in this comes in two issues. First, and the one that hits home the most with me, is the fact I had just under 1/8th of a tank of fuel in my '99 suburban. I put $80 worth of fuel into my tank and that put me at just over a 1/2 tank of gas. Now I know I made the choice to own that gas guzzling S.U.V., I also know it was mine and my wife's choice to have more children than a standard vehicle can accommodate. This is not the issue. The second issue and the one that I think should be on the minds of everyone in this country is the fact we have to import oil into this country to keep up with demand. We should not have overseas oil markets deciding what we pay at the pumps. Don't get me wrong, I work indirectly for an overseas oil company and not having that income I get from oil companies would be hurtful to my family. I haven't worked for "big oil" all my life and I am sure I would, more than likely, have a job somewhere else making less than what I am making now.
Getting off subject a little here. We have so many sources for oil in this country it is astounding. Not just oil, but natural energy that could be harnessed without the environmental impact that everyone is afraid of. Course with everything, there is someone dictating what everyone should do instead of____. I live in the Mat-Su valley. Palmer to be more specific. If you ask anyone what is significant about Palmer 90% of the people would say "the wind". Now I drive by 1 wind generator along a stretch of road to the store. The initial cost of one of these things is in the 4-5 figures. I, myself can't afford one of these things, but I bet a government could. Palmer's power company leases power from a company in Anchorage, I wonder how much of that leased power would we have to pay for if the local company put up some wind turbines here in the valley. Why can't the local/state/federal government give incentives to these companies and land owners who allow these turbines to be put up on their land. I am not the smartest person, and I don't know what the problem is here with doing these things everyone is talking about, renewable energy, natural energy, trying to get away from our dependence on foreign oil. I would hope the bureaucrats do. I can tell you this guy gets it and he's got my vote!
